Just as Apra reflects a new logo and tagline at its 30th anniversary, its Body of Knowledge (BOK) competencies have been enhanced to ensure its members and supporters gain the necessary skills and information to enable personal and professional development.
Here’s a quick snapshot of what’s now available:
Keeping Up Appearances
Apra BOK comprises four great domains: Prospect Research, Relationship Management, Data Analytics and Campaigns - which reflect an overall competency framework within the philanthropic sector. From the Apra homepage, select the Education drop down category to easily access BOK. Visually, the BOK categories promote fast navigation from glossary definitions and FAQs to interactive self-assessment quizzes.
As a manager, I have used the Prospect Research Domain to refine job descriptions during hiring and to establish interview questions around necessary skill sets. I’ve also utilized the Domains to set goals with team members. In my view, the Domains are comprehensive and beneficial reference documents.
Engage, Assess and Excel
Interactive self-assessment quizzes provide immediate feedback and allow participants to reflect on further skill development in each domain. Since all Apra educational content, from webinars to conferences, align with BOK domains one can take actionable next steps in career development. As an Apra member, utilize and benefit from the resources, directory and survey on the website to gain additional insights. Visit the Apra University to acquire applicable products. Take a few minutes out of your day to see what you know!
BE BOK SMART
Want something more tangible from BOK? BOK SMART (Skill Measurement and Readiness Tool) provides templates that can be used to create career development plans. Utilize these templates to prepare for a performance review or refine your CV. As a manager, use these templates to encourage career objectives discussions with team members.
