It’s hard to believe it’s been almost six weeks since the “Conversation With Carrick.” In that meeting, I shared the Apra Board of Directors’ initial rationale as it made its decision to make access to Apra’s online communities (which many of you know as PRSPCT-L) exclusive to members. I responded to questions as I could, knowing the board would continue to discuss the impact of our decisions.
I’ve continued to have one-on-one conversations with those who have approached me with their thoughts and feedback about an associate membership option and the future of PRSPCT-L. Some were positive, and some were critical. All of it, however, was productive. The dedication and passion I see from our community to support each other and our profession humbles me.
I want to thank everyone who provided their feedback regarding this important decision, including those who attended the conversation earlier this fall. Your input was essential for better understanding the value that this resource provides the Apra community and its importance to members and non-members alike.
After careful consideration, the board elected to keep these forums available to all users. This includes the Apra Exchange and the existing public communities to which you have access. Further, you’ll be able to search the 10 years of archives that we migrated from our legacy platform, along with current posts. Access will remain free, but will require a guest account with aprahome.org. We’ll continue to evolve this platform and make it easy for users to find relevant information to mature and develop their work, networks and careers.
We’ll soon be kicking off our membership renewal campaign, and — in the coming weeks — will launch Apra’s new associate membership level, which is designed for those early in their career, sole researchers at micro-sized shops and those interested in learning more about our profession from another place in advancement. If you’re not currently a member and that sounds like you, I hope you consider joining us. For our existing members, we are soon rolling out enhancements to your benefits so that you can gain even more value from your membership. Please stay tuned!
If you have questions regarding Apra’s online communities, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Apra team at info@aprahome.org.
Sincerely,
Carrick Davis
